In 2008, although working full-time with the Tasmanian Child Care Unit (Department of Education), Helen commenced a Certificate IV in Massage at Island Health College, specifically to improve her knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology; of course, then, realising the complementary value of massage and Pilates, she went on to complete her Diploma of Remedial Massage in May 2010.
In late 2009 Helen ‘gave up her day job’ to become a full-time student in 2010. In February 2010, she joined Tracey Nicholson’s APMA Level 2 course which Tracey offered from Pilates House in North Hobart, completing this in early 2011.
In 2011, she joined the teaching staff at Island Health College, being involved with both Certificate IV and Diploma of Remedial Massage students; and for several years, also had the role of Learning Program Co-ordinator at the College. She worked for several years as a remedial massage therapist, and continues this on a part-time basis from home.
Although Helen does not have her own Pilates studio, her car is her ‘mobile studio’, and she can cater for groups of 10 – 12 for mat sessions. As an independent contractor, Helen teaches mat for her own business and for several Hobart based Pilates studios; she has also been taking group reformer classes (at The Studio, Hobart) since 2008, and worked with individual clients in friends’ studios since 2011.
